The PrevArti art restoration and conservation lab will be open to the public later this month.

This is a unique opportunity to view the trompe l’oeil up close, that was removed for conservation and restoration from the Gozo Cathedral in January this year.

In 1739 a trompe l’oeil was created by Antonio Pippi (mid-18th century, after Padre Andrea Pozzo). It was installed that year in to the Gozo Cathedral to create the image of a cupola without the need of building one.

This trompe l’oeil is now undergoing a process of conservation and restoration by PrevArti.

It is expected that the work will take around a year to compete and is being partly- funded by the EU. The painting was last restored prior to the current intervention – in 1823.

The open day is on Sunday, the 27th of October, from 10.00am-5.30pm, they are located at F15B, Mosta Technopark.

PrevArti said that guided tours of the lab will take place every hour starting from 11am

Entrance fee is by donation and all proceeds will be given to the Living Waters Mission team, which forms part of the Tabgha Foundation (Vo/o314).
