Breast cancer affects over 300 people a year in Gozo and MaltaA reminder that tomorrow, as part of its Pink October campaign, the Gozo General Hospital is organising a Breast Cancer Seminar.

The seminar is aimed at raising awareness and encouraging women and men of all ages to check for signs.

The hospital said that breast cancer affects more than 300 people every year in Gozo and Malta, making it one of the most common types of cancer locally.

Director of Nursing Services at Gozo General Hospital, Ms Simone Cini, who is heading the team organising this seminar, explained that, “such events help people to stop and think and better equip themselves to detect early signs of the illness.”

She added that, “additionally, educational meetings disseminate information on what to expect in the case that they or a family member is diagnosed with the disease.”

In addition to the focus on Breast Cancer, through this seminar Gozo General Hospital is promoting the WHO Nursing Now campaign which aims at “improving the Nursing and Midwifery image, enhancing their influence, and maximising their contributions to ensuring that everyone has access to health and health care.”

The seminar is free of charge and will be held at the Citadel Exhibition Hall, Victoria, between 9am and 11.30am. Members of the public are highly encouraged to attend. A certificate of attendance will be awarded.
