The Opposition this morning tabled a motion to set up a Standing Committee in Parliament on Gozo Affairs
The Opposition Spokesman for Gozo Chris Said, proposed the motion which was also signed by Nationalist MPs Marthese Portelli, Fredrick Azzopardi and Kevin Cutajar and the whip of the Nationalist parliamentary group Robert Cutajar.
Dr Said explained in Parliament, that the Standing Committee should have the purpose of discussing matters affecting Gozo as well as proposed legislation which may affect the region of Gozo.
The Opposition spokesman for Gozo appealed to the Government Representatives elected from Gozo to give their support to this motion to be approved without delay by Parliament, so that this Committee can start its work.
In reply, Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana said that she agreed with the proposal for a Committee which focuses on matters related to Gozo.
Dr Caruana added that she had in fact been planning to announce such a Committee during her speech on the Budget.
