The Maltese National Commission for UNESCO and the Office for Education, Science and Culture in Gozo, have been hosting the third edition of Art Camp Malta in Gozo, with the theme of – Colours for Peace.

Over twenty artists from the UE, North Africa and the Middle-East attended the camp at the Tal-Fanal Village in Ghasri.

Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana visited the participating artists and congratulated them on their work, which, she said, was inspired by our beautiful island.

The Art Camp, which is an artist-in-residence programme, offered the artists a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations and gave them time for reflection, research, presentation and production related to the chosen central theme.

The artists also had the opportunity to visit historic sites in Malta and Gozo, enjoy a culinary night, and participate in outreach programmes with the community and schools.

Through the Art Camp project, Andorra, a little state located in a cross-cultural region, started this project nine years ago, not only to foster support and promote dialogue for peace between artists from all over the world, but also to strengthen the educational dimension of culture.

Art Camp Malta joined this project in 2015, when fifteen artists came to Malta to participate in this cross-cultural event, during which the artistic expression was the common and universal language.

In 2017, the Maltese National Commission for UNESCO together with the Office for Education, Science and Culture in Gozo, hosted the second edition of Art Camp.

Since 2012, H.E. Madame Hedva Ser, UNESCO’s Ambassador Artist for Peace and Special Envoy for Cultural Diplomacy, has been the Godmother of this project.
