On the occasion of International Volunteer Day (IVD), which falls today (Thursday) the Gozo NGOs Association is organising a number of activities in order to bring to the fore this year’s International Volunteer Day ‘Inclusivity’ related theme.

The Gozo NGOs Association programme of activities starts today with an Open Day at the Association’s office located within the Gozo NGO Centre, ir-Triq ir-Rummiena, Xewkija.

Officials of VOs/NGOs active in Gozo are invited to drop by at the NGOs Centre, during the day to meet the Gozo NGOs Association officials who will be in attendance at the NGO Centre from 10am to 1pm and from 4pm to 8pm.

They will be offering their time to hear ideas and listen to suggestions of how, as an Association, it can attune its services to meet the needs of its members and other VOs in general, but especially those organisations active in the ‘inclusivity challenges’ sector.

The Gozo NGOs Association programme of events will continue until the 31st of December.

This year’s #IVD2019 theme “Volunteer for an inclusive future,” highlights Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10: The pursuit of equality – including inclusion – through volunteerism.

The Association said that, “volunteering provides opportunities for people, particularly those often excluded, to concretely impact their own lives and play a constructive role in their communities by volunteering their time and skills. Through volunteerism, communities around the world often experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion”.

The UN mandated International Volunteer Day (IVD), serves an opportunity to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognise volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels.
