Why not celebrate the Winter Solstice a little differently this year, and join in a yoga event taking place at the Citadel in Victoria, Gozo.
Yoga, meaning “Union,” is a complex discipline combining physical, mental and spiritual practice. The ultimate goal of a “yogi” is enlightenment.
The organisers of the Gozo Winter Solstice event Monique van Bemmelen and Antje Lewerenz, said that Western society focuses a lot on the physical and as well the spiritual element with a big variety of various yoga classes, meditation courses, breathing exercises (Pranayama), etc.
They explained that “literally everybody can benefit from yoga, even if there is no spiritual aspiration or interest involved.”
Participants can just show up on the day. The organisers said that the symbolic participation fee is €1.00 which will be donated to the Gozo SPCA.
The programme for Saturday, the 21st of December is as follows:
14.50h Welcome
15.00h to 16.30h Hatha-Kundalino Yoga Session for all levels
16.40h 108 AUM chanting
The organisers ask that everyone please bring:
Comfortable loose clothing
Water bottle (please avoid single-use-plastic bottles)
Scarf/cape to wrap up into
What is provided:
Yoga mats, blocks
Experienced, dedicated yoga teachers will guide participants through the session.
The event will be held outdoors on the St. Michaels Bastions. In case of bad weather the yoga event will be held indoors at the Citadel Cultural Centre.
