The fifth edition of the Nadur Garmin 8K End of Year Run, has had its official launch by Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana. All proceeds from the event will go to Puttinu Cares.

The run is taking place on Sunday, the 29th of December at 9.30am, organised by the Nadur Local Council in full collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo, which.is providing financial assistance for this sporting event.

Dr Caruana commended the Nadur Local Council for organising this annual sporting event around the village of Nadur.

She added that there is a growing awareness on the importance of a more active life, since it is scientifically proven that an active lifestyle reduces the risk of disease.

The Minister went on to say that the Ministry for Gozo also believes in an active lifestyle and would be organising and assisting in various activities around Gozo to promote more physical activity and a healthy life, especially among children.

The Nadur Mayor Edward Said mentioned that there is an ever increasing number of participants in the race, for this year there will be about 200 athletes, 150 of whom are Maltese.

The Mayor thanked Minister Caruana for the financial assistance towards this year’s edition of the race.

The 8K run will open the event, followed by the 5K Walk and then three different Kids Races.

The Nadur Council said that for the first time the 8K will include Chip Timing and free transport will be provided to and from Mgarr (7.30am ferry from Mgarr to Nadur).

The signed and marked route will also be marshalled by the Nadur Youngsters F.C Nursery (Young Footballers).The Nadur Local Council said that it has also taken in consideration and worked upon all the necessary documentation with regards to Health and Safety.

A water station will be available at the 4K mark for all those participating in the Run and the Walk. Water will also be available at the village square upon crossing the finish line.

Prizes will be awarded to a selection of winners and a custom made commemorative token displaying Nadur Church which is synonymous with the locality of Nadur will be awarded to all participants, the Local Council said.

The organising team has launched a nadur8k website which will include all the necessary information as well as an option to apply and pay the related fee online (all proceeds will go towards Puttinu Cares).

The event is also being held in full collaboration with Garmin Malta and also with Athletix AC (Gozo), TriGozo, Gozo Sports Board, Shamrock Stars, and in aid of Puttinu Cares.
