Ms Charlayne Galea has been presented with the Gozo Tourism Worker of the Year Award 2019, during a presentation ceremony organised by the Gozo Tourism Association.

The main objectives of the Gozo Tourism Awards are to acknowledge, commend, encourage and thank all the workers, Entrepreneurs and Entities who distinguish themselves in the performance of their duties and activities in the vital touristic industry in Gozo.

Awards were bestowed to the Gozo Tourism Worker of the Year, the Gozo Young Tourism Worker of the Year, the Gozo Tourism Entrepreneurship Award and the Gozo Cultural/Social Tourism Achievement Award.

The Gozo Young Tourism Worker of the Year Award 2019 was won by Ms Megan Cauchi. This year’s Gozo Tourism Entrepreneurship Award 2019, was won by Mr Francis Azzopardi of Calypso Trackless Trains, whilst the winner of the Gozo Cultural/Social Achievement Tourism Award was awarded to the Dwejra Environmental Educational Centre.

Notary Public Dr. Paul G Pisani MIM., MA., LLD. Chairman of the adjudicating board, made the official announcement of the winners. The board also included, Mr. John Busuttil, Mr. Francesco Pio Attard and Ms. Silvana Sultana.

The Gozo Tourism Association Council awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Tourism to the brothers Mr. Joe and George Said for their investment and achievements in the tourism sector along the years, which, the GTA said, contributed towards job creation and economic growth on Gozo.

The Special Recognition Award in Tourism was awarded to Mr. Daniel Cilia, whilst the Gozo Tourism Commitment Award introduced for the first time this year was awarded to Mr. Ivan Mifsud of Mifsud Bros Ltd.

These awards were presented to the respective winners by Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli, Minister for Tourism, Dr. Gavin Gulia Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority and Mr. Paul Scicluna Chairman GTA.

The Minister for Gozo Dr. Justyne Caruana in her concluding message mentioned the importance of the Human Resources in the Tourism Sector.

She also emphasised the commitment of her Ministry for the enhancement of the Gozitan touristic offer with the ongoing projects, as well as with the all year-round cultural calendar.

Dr Caruana congratulated all the winners and nominees, and thanked all the workers and the Entrepreneurs in the Gozitan Tourism Industry.

The guests present were also addressed by the Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli, Dr. Gavin Gulia, and Mr Johann Buttigieg Chairman and CEO MTA respectively and Mr. Paul Scicluna Chairman Gozo Tourism Association.
