Update – Dr Justyne Caruana has resigned her position as Minister for Gozo following the disclosure in some of Sunday’s media which had revealed that her husband, former Deputy Police Commissioner Silvio Valletta, had travelled abroad with Yorgen Fenech to watch a football match.
In a statement on Monday morning Prime Minister Robert Abela said that he has received a resignation letter from Justyne Caruana Minister for Gozo, which he has accepted.
In the letter sent to the Prime Minister, she stressed that, the information in the media was “totally alien” to her, and although she has “no connection with the facts, I submit my resignation immediately.”
Justyne Caruana argued that “I have always served my role with absolute dedication to the task entrusted to me and with honesty and accuracy, and I pray that I can defend my name because of my children.”
The Prime Minister in his response, thanked Dr Caruana for her work as Minister for Gozo and previously as Parliamentary Secretary. He reiterated that through Dr. Caruana’s work there were many families and individuals who had benefitted from her decisions.
She was appointed Minister for Gozo in 2017 by the then Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, and was reappointed as Minister in the new cabinet last week.
