The 2020 Award Play writing competition was formally launched at the Participation Event held this week at the Gozo College Middle School.

Gozo Live said that this event was well attended by many students and their families. Many students read from their entries and others were awarded their books and certificates.

Due to the large number of entrants (345) many students will receive their certificates and books through their schools.

The organisers said that the Award Competition is supported by the English Department and all entries must be in English.

There are two themes on which students can write: What can I do to make the world a better place? – What can I learn from animals? Entries can be essays, poems, stories or plays

Students are also being invited to write either a fantasy story or a poem, there is a special prize for these entries although the majority of the prizes will go for entries on the themes above. Poems or Fantasy stories do not have to be on the themes.

Gozo Live explained that students will be judged on their creativity and originality “so they are encouraged to think deeply and to take an approach that is not the usual.” A few hints will be placed on the Facebook page of Gozo Live.

Generous prizes will be awarded. The closing date is the 22nd of April 2020.
