This weekend, activities related to the first Gozo Arts Weekend showcasing the work of artist Giuseppe Cali, were held in various localities across Gozo and included talks, information, a concert and activities for children.

The two-day event, which was hailed as a great success, was organised by the Ministry for Gozo – Cultural Heritage Directorate in collaboration with L-Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju Ghajnsielem and Ghajnsielem Parish.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri paid a visit to some of the activities during the Gozo Arts Weekend.

The highlight of the official exhibition opening was a lecture by Fr. Charles on the process of restoration of Calì’s paintings at Ghajnsielem’s Old Parish Church and an instrumental concert at the Ministry for Gozo Exhibition Hall.

There was also a `Cali Open Day’ in various churches, and to conclude the weekend, a children’s activity in Xewkija Square – Discover the Calì in You – organised by the Visual and Performing Arts School.

Cali has been described “as one of the greatest artists this country ever had, who has distinguished himself for his realistic style and romantic influences that have marked his work.”
