For.U.M. Unions Maltin, in a statement, voiced its disappointment that the Government is not introducing a travel ban from those countries most affected by Coronavirus and that “we are not seriously protecting Maltese and Gozitan citizens.”

The For.U.M called on the Government, “to sooner, rather than later, take things more seriously and protect the interest of Maltese and Gozitan citizens.”

It argued that “it is useless to ask those Maltese and Gozitan citizens who are travelling back from these affected countries to self-quarantine, while foreigners are not.”

For.U.M. Unions Maltin also stated that it can not accept that in the absence of this travel ban, members are being asked to stay home for 14 full days without any financial compensation. This type of process can lead to abuses, it said, which could affect the country’s economy.

The For.U.M. concluded by saying that it supports the requests for a clear action plan on COVID 19 (coronavirus) not only for the public sector, but also private sector operators in consultation with the social partners.
