Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat, has said that he will be working, so that the rights of Nadur residents are protected and said he has immediately asked for an account of the facts.
The Parliamentary Secretary is referring to the registration of large pieces of land in Nadur, which includes fields and properties.
Residents had brought the matter to the attention of Nadur Mayor Edward Said, after they were informed that the land did not belong to themselves, but to beneficiaries of the Sant Antonio Delli Navarra Foundation.
The Secretariat said that, so far these facts have been found; Through legal notice 142 of 2019, on 1 July, several parts around Malta and Gozo have been included in the registration area, including Nadur Gozo. Among various applications, in January and February of this year, two applications were submitted to the Land Registration Agency; On 21 January 2020 an application for registration of land of around 14,398m.k. on behalf of the benefit of Sant Antonio Delli Navarra; On 12 February 2020, another application for registration of land of around 13,252m.k. was put in on behalf Sant Antonio Delli Navarra.
“It turns out that the registration of the two stretches of land impacted a number of residents and I understand their genuine concerns,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.
Mr Muscat explained that he has requested a detailed report for clarification as well as other related documents, to ensure that there are no violations and to establish the validity of the process. “Further steps are also not being ruled out and the Land Registration Agency is carrying out audits.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that it will be meeting with the Nadur Local Council and with the affected residents this coming Monday.
A Public Meeting for Nadur Residents on the land registration issue has been organised by the Council, tomorrow, Saturday, 7th March, at 10.00am, at Joe Tabone Hall – Nadur.
