Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has advised on what he said are “the facts” of the current situation in Gozo on the Covid-19 virus.

He said that, “up to now all Gozo tests carried out have proved negative. If there are people who are quarantined, it does not automatically mean they are ill.”

If there is a positive result, the Minister said that there is, “already a protocol in place to transport the patient to Malta on a specially chartered ship. In case the need arises for patients to be treated Gozo, then the Government is preparing for this event.”

Minister Camilleri explained that Gozo Channel ferries are keeping the doors open at all times for natural ventilation.

He added that also, from today, all ships will be professionally sanitised at night with hospital grade disinfectant.

“This process will take place every night,” and the Minister pointed out that this may cause some delays to the later journeys.

After discussing with Transport Malta officials, the Minister for Gozo said that “tourist boats will be prohibited to disembark passengers on Gozo’s quays. This means that the only point of entry will be the Gozo Channel vessels.”

He also appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary trips between the two islands, except for work, medical treatment or supply-chain services.

The Gozo Minister concluded by saying that, “if necessary, and after expert advice, more drastic measures may need to be taken to stop the Covid-19 virus reaching Gozo.”
