March the 22nd is World Water Day and this year the focus is on the effects of water – and its consumption – on climate change.
According to UN-Water, Climate delay is almost as dangerous as climate denial. Every country in the world must work more quickly.
It said that extreme weather events are making water more scarce, more unpredictable, more polluted or all three.
Humans need water to survive, UN-Water said, “as do all the systems we rely on: sanitation, healthcare, education, business and industry.”
It highlighted the fact that “action plans to tackle climate change need to be integrated across different sectors and coordinated across borders. And they must have one thing in common: safe and sustainable water management.”
Efficient use of water will help in the reduction of greenhouse gases and with this in mind the National Statistics Office has issued an infographic, as seen above, detailing local statistics about water.
