A €10,000 fine, up from €3,000, is now applicable every time a person with Covid-19 is caught not in their residence by police carrying out inspections, the Government said today.
Authorities said that those who have the Covid-19 virus, and have no need to be admitted to hospital, are required to stay in self-isolation under medical observation and until now there has been a fine of €3,000 for every person under quarantine who did not observe this.
Through a new legal notice to be published, a new fine of €10,000 will be introduced for persons testing positive for the coronavirus who do not respect isolation obligations.
There have been 303 mandatory quarantine inspections carried out in Malta and 28 in Gozo, with one person caught.
The Government said that these inspections are carried out by officials from the health authorities and the Civil Protection Department.
It once again reiterated the appeal that everyone should be responsible and cooperate with the directives that are being issued by the authorities.
On Sunday, over a thousand inspections were carried out in Malta and Gozo on various establishments, and none were caught open for business. The Government said that around 3,400 inspections have been carried out so far.
