13 new Covid-19 cases: 8 contracted locally, 5 are travel relatedSupt. of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in the daily update on Tuesday said that 13 new cases of Covid-19 had been registered in the past 24-hours. 8 have been contracted locally and 5 are travel related.

The total of cases now stands at 169, with 563 swabs, including from Gozo, taken in the past 24-hours, resulting in these new cases, their medical condition is good, Prof Gauci said.

5 of the 8 positive cases are linked to a person who had some symptoms and still went to work. 3 of the persons were infected with the virus from him, and the other 2 from those who were infected by it at the workplace.

In respect of other patients, there are 2 in ITU, one is critical and on a ventilator, 17 are at St Thomas Hospital, 7 are in IDU and all other patients are in isolation at their homes.

Prof Gauci reiterated that we should all practice social distancing and avoid meeting people as much as possible and reminded everyone of the new fines for people in groups of more than 3. She appealed for everyone to stay at home when possible.

When asked about the opening of the spring hunting season, particularly in light of the new regulations on groups of people, including in the countryside Prof Gauci said that it is an ongoing situation which is being discussed and assessed by authorities.
