Tomorrow is the 15th anniversary from the death of Pope Saint John Paul II. Unfortunately the circumstances of the Covid-19 do not allow the JP2 Foundation of Gozo to commemorate this event, with 2020 also dedicated to the first centenary of the birth of Karol Wojtyla.
The JP2 Foundation has therefore issued a prayer which was printed and temporarily fixed by the national monument dedicated to Pope Saint John Paul II on the way to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu in Triq Papa Gwanni Pawlu II Victoria Gozo.
On this particular occasion we would like all of you to say this prayer in silence.
“POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II
You who came to visit us 30 years ago
Protect us
You who walked on Maltese soil
Protect us
You who spoke our language
Protect us
You who lived with us and loved us
Protect us
With the intercession of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu
Be our Guardian
Be our Ambassador before Our Almighty FATHER
Amen
Recite the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Gloria”
The JP2 Foundation has also launched a “restricted event” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Pope’s birth, and calls on the public to participate in – Light a Candle to Pope John Paul II.
As from tomorrow, the JP2 Foundation said that it will be welcoming a red candle from each family or individual with the name written on a small piece of paper taped to the candle.
A box with a sign saying – Light a Candle to Pope John Paul II will be placed next to the National Monument to collect these candles.
The candles will then be lit on Sunday, the of 17th May at midnight and will remain alight all night and all day of the 18th of May – the commemoration day.
The JP2 Foundation will be holding festive events to commemorate this centenary as soon as the authorities will allow such events to happen.
For those that are in quarantine, to participate in – Light a Candle to Pope John Paul II – they can light it in window or balcony of their residence. on that night.
