The Government’s commitment of the introduction of an airlink ensuring more connectivity to Gozo, has been welcomed by the Gozo Tourism Association.

This was reiterated by Prime Minister Robert Abela on Saturday during an event in Ghajnsielem, where he said that it is the Government’s intent that the airlink service will be “carried out by the private sector.”

The GTA also noted that this important connectivity infrastructure “will be done in a sustainable way by not taking up any agricultural land.”

The Association went on to say that it “fully understands and is conscious that this project not only serves Gozo through better connectivity, but it will be the catalyst for the creation of new niches and new economic activities.”

It also welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that Government is looking to introduce a new fourth Gozo Channel vessel which will be more environment friendly and with lower emissions.

“These are all significant steps towards the inter islands connectivity adding more improvements to Gozo’s accessibility,” the GTA said. “An all year round, island tourist destination, like Gozo, can only be saleable if there are reliable, consistent, effective and cost sensitive types of connectivity from and to the mainland and from the outside world,” it added.

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by expressing satisfaction “that one of its connectivity measures proposed along the years – an airlink – is on course to be realised.

Great the AIR BUS A380 will be landing here very soon with 800 passengers daily . We already had an air link and it was not feasible for winter months so it was canceled.

It wasn’t cost effective that’s why it failed. If we want an airlink we need to keep Gozo attractive to the kind of passenger who can afford to fly between the islands – STOP THE RAMPANT CONSTRUCTION! otherwise no one will want to visit anyway.
