The Nationalist Party in a statement has said that it “shows solidarity with residents of Triq Gorf in Xaghra, because the Government has resumed asphalting on this road without the consideration of installing the drainage service.”

The PN went on to say that while it is true that the issue is not easy to resolve, it is equally true that in 2020, the Government cannot allow citizens to remain in a situation where sewage is dumped into ditches, with the inconvenience of odours, dirt and the need to drain these ditches frequently.

“What is worrying is the way in which Ministers not only did not listen to the residents, who even petitioned them, but made it clear that they would no longer consider the issue and would not be meeting them,” the PN said.

The Nationalist Opposition stressed that what was “also disturbing is the absolute silence of the Labour Council in Xaghra.”

The PN concluded by saying that it deplores what it described as the “irresponsible and arrogant behaviour of the Labour Government and the Xaghra Labour Council,” adding that it will continue to apply pressure regarding Triq Gorf Street and other forgotten roads with sewerage problems, pledging to address the issue for all residents during a future government.
