Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, speaking in Monday’s daily briefing on the Covid-19 situation, said that 2 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, from 700 tests taken, with 4 more people recovered.
Prof Gauci said that there are 450 cases, 160 currently active, with 286 patients recovered in total. There have been 4 deaths.
The recovered cases will remain under quarantine for the next 7 days, she said. 29,456 swab tests have been carried out so far.
The new cases are a 40-year old Maltese man, who had been in contact at work with another who was positive for the virus. He had been in quarantine since the diagnosis of his work colleague. Contact tracing is being carried out with his family.
There is also a 68-year old Maltese man who started displaying symptoms on April the 25th, and Prof Gauci said that contact tracing is being done through his work as a volunteer, and with members of family.
Prof Gauci stressed that it is important for social distancing measures to remain in place, in particular to help protect the more vulnerable members of society, and also urged people not to go outside unless necessary.
