Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in Thursday’s update on the current Covid-19 situation, said that new 5 cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, from 1,23 tests taken, with 12 more people recovered.

She went on to say 1hat there are 465 cases, 110 are currently active, with 351 recovered, there have been 4 deaths. 32,89 swab tests have been taken in total so far.

The 2 latests cases are a 33-year old Sudanese man who had contact with a previously confirmed case, but not with anyone else and a 29-year old Romanian woman, who had stopped working, symptoms appeared on the 27th of April and had been in contact with 2 from the household. Contact tracing is being carried out, Prof Gauci said.

She added that 2 of the active cases are in ITU at Mater Dei, 3 are in Infectious Diseases Ward at MDH, 8 are at Boffa Hospital and 6 at St Thomas Hospital, the remaining are recovering at home and being monitored.

Prof Gauci explained that of the reported cases so far, 80% had experienced symptoms and 20% were without.

Prof Gauci appealed to the public to make use of the symptoms app that was launched this morning, “no personal details are required only a person’s age.” No IP address or location is recorded, she said.

The authorities have said that  “on the eve of a public holiday and another weekend, it is essential that each and every one of us continues following the measures rolled out by the health authorities so that our country continues to stem the spread of this virus successfully.”
