During Thursday’s update on the current Covid-19 situation, Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci said that once again, 2 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, both were asymptomatic.

1,022 tests were taken, making 39,366 in total. She went on to say that there are 486 cases, 68 are currently active, 413 people have recovered and there have been 5 deaths.

Prof Gauci stressed that it is very important to find asymptomatic people to be able to control the spread of the virus.

The latest cases are a Maltese woman aged 77, who was found positive for the virus when she was tested before surgery.

The other is a Maltese woman aged 24 whose daughter had shown symptoms but tested negative for the virus, the woman was tested and although asymptomatic, the test was positive.

Prof Gauci again appealed to the public to abide by the measures as set out by authorities.

She said that over the next 3 weeks risk assessments are being made on further relaxation of measures and a decision will be made then.
