More than €50,000 has been raised by the Church in Gozo to buy a ventilator for Covid-19 patients.

The appeal was initiated by Bishop Mario Grech over a month ago and he has now passed on this donation to Minister for Health Dr Chris Fearne. He explained that “a significant part of this sum has been donated by local priests.”

In his letter to Dr Fearne, Bishop Grech said, “it was my intention to raise funds to purchase a ventilator to assist in the care of the patients most affected by the virus, preferably those who are from Gozo. I am convinced that the Health Ministry will make the best use of these funds, as it deems appropriate. ”

On behalf of the Church in Gozo, Bishop Grech thanked the Minister, his colleagues and frontline workers for the service they are providing to everyone, “through the intercession of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, I ask God’s blessing upon you.”

The total sum raised was € 60,230, Bishop Grech said, and the remainder will be given to the Deacon’s Office of the Diocese of Gozo in order to continue to support those in the community with financial difficulties becasue of the Covid-19 pandemic.
