Thousands of Yelkouan Shearwater, Scopoli’s Shearwater and Mediterranean Storm-petrel live on the Maltese Archipelago.

They might be out of sight during the day, but at night their eerie sounds fill in the air around the cliff-side of Maltese Islands.

Learn more about our secretive neighbours, when this Wednesday, BirdLife Malta’s LIFE Arcipelagu Garnija project manager Dilek Sahin gives a virtual online presentation about what they have been doing to provide them with a safe home.

These seabirds spend most of their time at sea and only approach the land at night to care for their eggs and chicks. However, BirdLife Malta said that, “despite their out-of-human-sight lives, they are not out of human’s harm.”

Seabirds are one of the most threatened group of birds globally and Maltese seabirds are no exception.

Next Wednesday, the 27th of May, between 3pm and 4pm, there is the opportunity to learn more about our secretive neighbours, discover more about their lives, hear what BirdLife Malta has been doing to provide them with a safe home and what we, as the general public, can do to help these species

The event is being organised by Queen Mary University of London (Malta) together with the seabird project, and will be hosted by Cafe Scientifique Gozo.
