Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli, officially launched the lifeguard service for beaches on Gozo, Comino and Malta this summer, with an investment of €900,000.

In Gozo, the lifeguard service will be offered at Ramla Bay, Marsalforn (where there will also be a jet ski rescue) Xlendi, Mgarr ix-Xini and Hondoq ir-Rummien, and at the Blue Lagoon, Comino, which will also have a jet ski. The service will continue until the 30th of September.

In Malta, the beaches are Gnejna, Ghajn Tuffieha, Golden Sands, Ghadira, Bugibba Bay, Qawra Point, St. George’s Bay, and in Balluta Bay in St Julian’s, Fond Ghadir in Sliema, Fajtata at Marsascala and Pretty Bay and St. George’s Bay in Birzebbuga.

The service will also include a number of rescue vans that transport lifeguards as back-up and hydro ambulance. There will be three jet skis in Malta, located at Ghadira, Golden Bay and Bugibba.

The Tourism Minister said that this is a much needed service for the thousands of Maltese and Gozitans who visit the beaches during the summer months, as well as tourists who will be visiting the islands from the 1st of July, as soon as the airport opens.

She added that, “this service complements the work of the Malta Tourism Authority’s beach supervisors, who each year are on the beaches to ensure that protocols are being observed.”
