The Church in Malta has updated the directives regarding Mass and liturgical celebrations where the public is present.
In a statement, it said that a number of precautionary measures against Covid-19 will remain in place and more restrictive ones will be reduced.
These directives enter into force today, the 1st of July, and will remain in force until other directives are issued by the Ecclesiastical Authorities. The updated directives have been published on the Archdiocese website.
Mandatory measures to be maintained include:
1. Social distancing within the church except for family members living in the same household
2. Sanitiser at the door for public use
3. Communion will continue to take place in person and in their place.
4. Regular cleaning and ventilation of churches
5. The fonts of Holy Water are left empty
6. Persons with respiratory or flu symptoms are not allowed to enter
The decision of the Bishops of the 12th of by which the Christians were given exemption from the obligation of Sunday Mass, will remain in force for the time being.
All Christians, especially non-vulnerable people, are encouraged to celebrate, particularly on Sunday by attending Mass.
