Over recent weeks the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, as a first step in the process to issue the call to select operators, has published the contracts of the existing Comino operators for the rental of deckchairs and umbrellas, said Minister Ian Borg.
He went on to say that the Malta Tourism Authority, together with other authorities, “has also begun evaluating the criteria required for future calls, for 2026, with the aim of achieving a more sustainable balance in the use of deckchairs and umbrellas, as well as in operators of food, beverage and other product kiosks.”
Minister Borg was replying to a Parliamentary Question tabled in the house by Opposition MP Chris Said as to the progress of the process to issue the call to select operator(s) for rental of deckchairs and umbrellas in Comino before summer 2025.

Where money reigns, curruption excel. I bet you that Comino will never return to what it was before. Well…. if one wants to return Xlendi to its pristine character we need many demolition cranes, Yet there is nothing to demolish in Comino.
All one HAS TO DO IS MOVE THE KIOSKS further back inland where one cannot even see them and not hear them, and clear the beach and the cement part from the deck chairs and umbrellas. They can be much less and placed on the rocky part where one cannot lay on the rocks.
Forget it Anthony. Your beloved Gozo has been hijacked by immoral money-mad cowboys supported and encouraged by the national government. Sadly, I fear that is too late to reverse the unbelievably rapid decline of the last decade in most aspects of Maltese life. There’s another story in the same headlines about the three Gozitan poachers who blatantly break the law and the ‘police’ allow them to walk away. Sorry if I’ve not exactly brightened your mood, but we both know we are unlikely to return to the good old days.
Comino was taken away from the Maltese and Gozitans ages ago and unfortunately now belongs to the ‘Cowboys’ and Tourists ……GREED is a terrible thing that only Destroys……
