There were decreases in the number of passengers, trips and vehicles making the crossings on Gozo Channel in the second quarter when compared to last year, the National Statistics Office said today.
With restrictions taking place because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it meant that only 581,311 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the second quarter, this was down by 63.1%when compared to last year.
June saw the highest number of passengers crossing over, with – 318,822 or 54.8% of the total for the quarter. When comparing to the previous year, the number of vehicles decreased by 37.9%, totalling 282,446.
During the second quarter there were 5,334 trips made, a decrease of 15.2% over last year, the NSO noted that the majority of trips took place in June – 2,136 or 40.0% of total trips for the quarter.
During January-June, passenger and vehicle traffic from Cirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays, whereas highest numbers from Mgarr were recorded on Sundays and Mondays.

Didn’t our minster, Clint Camilleri, not want to publish these obvious and predictable figures because they were “comercially sensitive?” To be honest I am suprised they’re only 63% down.
