Update 3pm from Gozo Minister below – A spike of 14 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, Health Authorities have said, with no new recoveries.
This means that there are currently 26 active cases, and the authorities have said that details of today’s new cases will be provided later.
The media have been reporting this morning that the 14 are made up of another cluster of cases from the hotel party last weekend in Malta and quite possibly the St George’s Feast march which was held last Sunday morning in Victoria.
Update: Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, has said in a facebook post that he has been informed by the doctor responsible for public health in Gozo that none of the 14 positive cases today were associated with the St. George’s Band march, or in Gozo. “Follow the official statements.”
1,220 swab tests were taken during the last 24-hours. The total number of swabs taken since the start being 120,145.
700 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in total, with 665 recovered and there have been 9 deaths.
Health Authorities advised the public that for any queries regarding symptoms, or to make an appointment at one of the swabbing centres, please call 111. All 3 swabbing centres are open daily Monday to Sunday, including the one in Gozo.
The Authorities reminded that for the correct, official Covid-19 updates, the public should follow the sahha and Health Promotion and Disease Directorate Facebook pages.
Health authority make sure that all passengers crossing from Malta to Gozo on the ferry are checked for the covid virus and all passengers are wearing masks because already now another 14 got the virus total now of effected 24.
Any virus brought to Gozo is mainly due to the Maltese weekenders. Gozo is normally free of viruses until the Maltese travel to Gozo for their weekend break.
Perhaps the Ministry should stop promoting mass gatherings like the music ones at Xlendi and Hondoq.
Maybe cancel the rather pointless opening bash being held in St Francis Square tonight!
