PN criticises Government lack of response to appeals not to drop fast ferryThe Nationalist Party in a statement, has criticised the Government for not responding to the appeals from various sections of society not to drop the introduction of a fast ferry service after a change in policy.

The PN said that appeals have been made by Gozitan students, the Gozitan business community, the GTA, and the Nationalist Party among others, for the Government to reconsider this wrong decision, particularly for Gozo and the Gozitans who are, of course, the most affected by it.

The PN argued that “in the light of the information that has come out in public so far, the Minister responsible for transport Ian Borg, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, as well as Transport Malta and the Gozo Channel Company, all have a lot to answer for.”

“This is not only because the Government deceived the people when it did not keep one of its main electoral promises, but also because there are suspicions of lack of transparency,” the Opposition stated.

The Nationalist Party went on to ask, “what the real reason was behind the fast ferry project being abandoned. What studies were done to justify the abandonment of the project and replaced with the hop-on hop-off sea service, and if conducted, where were these studies published.”

The Party also questioned, “what the reasons were behind the cancellation of the selection process of the previous fast ferry operator for the abandonment of the project.”

“Who has taken over, or who will take responsibility for the cancellation of the fast ferry operator selection process and the subsequent abandonment of this project and the related consequences,” the PN asked.

It also questioned the length of time it would take to travel by the proposed hop-on hop-off sea service instead of the fast ferry to get to the Valletta area from Gozo and vice versa, as well as the number of stops and where they would be, the frequency of the service and cost of fares.
