“I read The Gozo News article: “Pope honours Gozitan Charles Spiteri with the “Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” (Aug 9 issue).

I think it is wonderful that Pope Francis awarded Charles Spiteri with the high honour of ” Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” medal, the Cross of Honour, which was presented by Mgr. Mario Grech, Apostolic Administrator for Gozo.

As the article noted, Charles Spiteri is a veteran journalist whose long career predates social media.

And, what makes this brand of “news” news-worthy is because his work is verifiable and he stands by his work.

This gentleman reported on news pertaining to various topics, including his news of the “Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” medal – the Cross of Honour – to Charles Spiteri.

Few people realise the significance of the award. This honour is given by the Pope to those Christians who have distinguished themselves for services rendered to the Roman Catholic Church in one field or another.

Charles Spiteri definitely deserves it.”
