Koperattivi Malta and Ghaqda Bdiewa Attivi sign agreement for benefit of farmersKoperattivi Malta – Cooperatives Malta (KM) and the Ghaqda Bdiewa Attivi – Active Farmers Association (GhBA) in a statement on Thursday, said that they aim to ensure that the interest of Maltese and Gozitan farmers will be protected, and to this end they have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation between them.

Koperativi Malta is offering the opportunity for GhBA to participate in the European organisation COPA of which KM is a member so that the Maltese agricultural sector is informed of what is happening in the European marketplace and also that the voice of local farmers can be considered and heard at European level.

The COPA (Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations) represents the interests of farmers ’cooperatives of European countries and aims to maintain a relationship with the different bodies of the European Union in order to find adequate solutions for European farmers.

“That is why KM and the GhBA believe that with a strong presence in this forum, the needs and circumstances of Maltese farmers will be better represented with a view to COPA’s work and lobbying it also covers the interests of local producers,” they said.

The agreement was signed by Brian Vella- Secretary General of Koperativi Malta and Malcolm Borg – Coordinator of the Ghaqda Bdiewa Attivi.
