An outdoor gym scheme is being launched for Gozitan local Councils, through the EcoGozo Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo.

The scheme was announced by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri. This assistance scheme will help Local Councils in Gozo identify a site in their respective locality in order to develop and set up an outdoor gym or fitness zone.

All this is being done as part of the European Mobility Week which started on Wednesday and finishes next Tuesday.

Minister Camilleri stated that through this scheme, the Ministry for Gozo will be providing assistance to each Local Council up to a maximum of €5,000 or 85% of the cost for them to invest in open-air gyms according to all local and European standards governing this type of facility.

He went on to say that, while the Ministry is aware that many gyms have reopened their doors to the public, there are still people who due to the current pandemic, frequent public parks where the equipment may not be adequate for their workouts.

He added that, “everyone knows how important exercise is, and this initiative will be helping Gozo to have more public open spaces and well-equipped open-air gyms or fitness zones where people of all ages can do their daily exercise.”

The Minister urged all Local Councils that don’t yet have outdoor gyms to take the opportunity and apply for this scheme which will ultimately be enjoyed by residents in all localities.

Local Councils will be receiving an application for the scheme in the coming days.
