A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Malta Enterprise an the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) so that MCVS can make use of the Malta Enterprise office in Ta’ Dbiegi Crafts Village, Gozo.

The new office opened earlier this month and the MCVS said that it will be supporting VOs in information related to training and capacity building.

Through this MOU, which was signed this morning, Malta Enterprise said that both parties will undertake initiatives to promote the Dbiegi Crafts Village and to give more visibility to the voluntary organisations in Gozo.

The signing took place during a press conference presided by Silvio Schembri Minister for the Economy, Investment & Small Businesses, Clint Camilleri- Minister for Gozo and Clifton Grima – Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organisations.

They explained that fifteen operators in the Crafts Village have benefited from more than €70,000 in Covid Wage Supplement between them, which helped them to be able to continue operating as well as safeguarding jobs.

Minister Schembri said that, “currently, there are fifteen operators in Dbiegi and we are in the process of starting three more operators inside this village. The measures we have announced, such as the Covid Wage Supplement, have helped to even preserve artisanal crafts that can continue to operate and expand today.”

He explained that four of the operators were entitled to the grant of ten thousand euros to teach their craft to third parties for the purpose of being employed or even starting a craft business on their own.” He added that work is underway to bring more life back into the village.

Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, stated that this combined work shows “Gozo will remain at the top of the agenda of this government.”

He spoke about the importance of continuing to promote Ta ‘Dbiegi, as well as nurturing young people in crafts and handicrafts to further expand this crafts village.

Minister Camilleri explained that the aid given by the government in wages and through vouchers had a very positive impact and said that Gozo “has benefited greatly from domestic tourism this summer.”

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima said this agreement will further develop the already strong relationship between the two parties “through collaborative efforts that are guaranteeing a better society.”

“The opening of this office in Gozo shows how much this government is committed to giving all possible help to voluntary organisations in order to ensure their existence,” he said.

“This was a decision taken with Gozitan voluntary organisations, after they expressed their desire to have a centre that offers services related to the sector in Gozo itself. Through this office, these organisations will be equipped and have the necessary tools to continue working, thus strengthening the voluntary sector in Gozo,” stated Parliamentary Secretary Grima.
