134 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours with 40 recoveries, there are now 1,543 active cases.

Health authorities said, today’s cases are “still being investigated.” From yesterday’s 109 cases, authorities said that 36 were family members of previously known cases, 6 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 10 were direct contacts with other positive cases and 6 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases, 3 were imported and 2 cases from Paceville. Details were not given for the other outstanding 46 cases.

The brings the total number of cases up to 4,871. There have been 3,282 recoveries and 46 deaths, the Ministry said. There were 2,690 swab tests taken, with 303,016 having been taken since the start.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – is still not showing updated figures for Malta, so the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 231.6 with the number of cases showing as 4,282 and 45 deaths. Malta is currently in fourteenth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 858.6

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
