The first round of the Gozo Motocross Championship 2021 took place on Sunday at Ta’ Xhajma Track, organised by the Gozo Motocross Association.
The GMA said that the afternoon proved to be an extremely enjoyable experience both for riders and spectators alike amidst many rules and regulations according to the Health authorities Covid-19 protocols which were in place to safeguard all those present.
Following weeks of extensive, hard work, the GMA said that Motox riders were “pleased with the high level of standard of the circuit. The rough terrain challenged riders to use power, speed and strength to show their unlimited off-road skills from start to finish.”
GMA president Frank Xuereb, thanked all those who helped with the work on the circuit and welcomed the much needed intensive overhaul. “The circuit has reached a high level of quality and professionalism,” he said.
Xuereb welcomed all new comers, especially 13-year old Jake Camilleri who has just started practising the sport at GMA.
As usual the event was divided into four categories. In Class A, current champion 2020 Steve Xuereb achieved maximum points on his Honda CRF 250cc. He was followed by David Dimech and Mario Cauchi respectively.
In Category B, Jorn Stellini who was promoted from class C came in first, while Matthew Zammit won second place. Robert Spiteri was placed third.
In Class C, Jurgen Attard, 2020 champion in class D achieved first place. Young Mark Camilleri placed second followed by Steve Cassar.
Meanwhile class D was dominated by new comers Jake Camilleri, Paul Caruana and Luke Caruana. Paul Caruana won first place followed by Luke. Marvin Sultana made a comeback and he also managed to come in third.
The winners were awarded trophies and Ravenol products donated by Galea General Services in Gozo.
Gozo Motocross Association advised that Round 2 of the Gozo Motocross Championship 2021 fuelled by Enemed will take place on Sunday, the 15th November, the event is closed to the general public. Only those with a special permit can attend, GMA said.

Gozo politicians tells us that our island is going green than you have this sport going on every weekend polluting badly the air and the noise pollution that you can hear from miles away. Shame on Gozo that we get only hot air and promises.
