125 new Covid-19 cases and 89 recoveries, now 1,880 active casesHealth authorities said that 125 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours with 89 recoveries, there are now 1,880 active cases, with today’s cases “still being investigated.”

From yesterday’s 115 cases, authorities said that 46 were family members of previously known cases, 6 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 2 were direct contacts with other positive cases, 1 from Paceville and 1 was imported. Details were not given for the other outstanding 59 sporadic cases.

The total number of cases are now up to 5,498. There have been 3,567 recoveries and 52 deaths, the Ministry said. There were 3,285 swab tests taken, with 317,904 having been taken since the start.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – is showing figures for Malta up to this morning, but not including today’s, so the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 342.8 with the number of cases showing as 5,373 and 50 deaths. Malta is currently in twelfth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 1210.8

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
