Health authorities said that 76 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours with 91 recoveries, making 1,891 active cases, a record 3,698 swab tests were taken.

Today’s cases “still being investigated,” and the authorities said from yesterday’s 76 cases; 20 were family members of previously known cases, 25 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 10 were direct contacts with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 21 sporadic cases.

The total number of cases are now up to 6,042. There have been 4,155 recoveries and 62 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 336,319 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and is showing for Malta that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 336,3 however, the number of cases recorded is 5,942 as well as 61 deaths. Malta is currently in sixteenth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 155.8, followed by Belgium with 1497.3.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
