More than 2800 inspections have been conducted in just one week by community officials in Malta and Gozo related to the rules on wearing of a mask to help combat the spread of Covid-19.

These inspections, were carried out between Monday and Sunday of last week on public transport, Gozo Channel ships, in various shops, as well as on the roads and resulted in 1,295 fines being issued for people not wearing masks.

The LESA said that this work complements what other enforcement bodies are doing, including the police, the MTA and the public health inspectorate.

The Chief Executive of LESA, Mr. Svetlick Flores, explained that “as LESA, and as a result of our presence in the communities, we have taken a very active role when it comes to enforcing the wearing of masks.”

“This is one of the measures being pushed by the health authorities and considered very important to combat the move,” he added.
