106 new Covid-19 cases, with 108 recoveries, still 1,937 active casesHealth authorities said that a record 106 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 24-hours with 108 recoveries, making 1,937 active cases. 2,816 swabs were taken.

Today’s cases are “still being investigated,” and the authorities said from yesterday’s 218 cases; 23 were family members of previously known cases, 10 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 2 were direct contacts with other positive cases, 1 case was imported and 2 were from social gatherings with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 180 sporadic cases.

The total number of cases are now up to 6,506. There have been 4,505 recoveries and 64 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 346,106 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and is showing for Malta that up to this morning, but not including today’s figures, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 336.9 the number of cases recorded is 6,400 as well as 64 deaths. Malta is currently in nineteenth position in the EU/EEA and UK. Belgium is at the top with 1735.2, followed by Czechia with 1586.3.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
