150 new Covid-19 cases and 2 more deaths, 57 active cases in Gozo, 11 in hospitalThere were 150 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 101 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,124. 3,035 swabs were taken. The Health Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.”

During her weekly update today, Prof Charmaine Gauci has announced another two deaths from Covid-19. They are a 95-year old man who died yesterday, he was admitted to hospital on the 8th of November and had tested positive the next day, and a 79-year old man who died today, he had tested positive on the 29th of October. This brings the total number of deaths from the virus to 92.

She said that there are currently 208 patients in hospital, including 11 patients in the Gozo General Hospital. Out of the total number of active patients, there are 57 in Gozo, down slightly from last Friday, when it was 62.

There are 13 patients in the Mater Dei ITU and 10 in the IDU, with 36 in other wards. 42 patients are at Boffa, 3 at Mount Carmel, 24 at St Thomas and and 69 are in the Good Samaritan long term facility.

The average age of those who have tested positive in the past week in Malta and Gozo is 45.4 years, she said.

Prof Gauci reiterated the need for the public to adhere to the wearing of masks, social distancing, and to practice personal hygiene.

The total number of cases are now up to 7,796 There have been 5,580 recoveries and now 92 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 377,054 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, is showing for Malta, that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, not including today’s is 360.6 the number of cases recorded is 7,646, and the number of deaths has now been increased to 88, from the 72 recorded yesterday. Malta is currently in 21st position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 1327.4 followed by Czechia with 1282.7.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
