The PN spokesperson for Gozo Affairs Chris Said, has said that people living in Marsalforn are voicing their concerns to him on a daily basis about how the situation in this locality is getting worse.

Writing on facebook Dr Said stated that residents want Marsalforn to be a safe place for families to live and “not a place where all social problems are thrown.”

He explained that among the concerns mentioned are; * daily fighting in the streets of Marsalforn often with bottles and other weapons; * drug trafficking in front of everyone and in broad daylight; * damage to vehicles and residences; * theft from residences; * shops that serve alcohol all the time and in plain view, including those that remain open until the early hours of the morning; * shouting and street noise including at night.

Dr Said said that reports are often made to the police and no action is taken, or when it is taken, it is too late.

He went on to say that the Marsalforn police station was recently embellished and all the Ministers and officers of the Malta Police “inaugurated it.” Dr Said stressed that “residents want enforcement and action and not just a nice police station. Enforcement does not currently exist.”

“Work is underway on the Marsalforn promenade, which is a good thing.” But, he said, “what the residents want first and foremost is Marsalforn not to end up being the place where all social problems are thrown – as is happening now, they want it to be a safe place where one can live with one’s family.”

“Urgent action is needed.”
