Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has chaired an agreement between the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo Football Association for more than €125,000 in financial assistance, to enable the GFA provide for the first time live streaming of football matches in Gozo.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020-21 season matches have been, and still are, being played behind closed doors.

Minister Camilleri said that live streaming will be available to Gozitan football fans all over the world to watch the matches in real time.

There will also be a competition to test the knowledge of the fans to predict the results of the events in all Gozitan football matches, and to involve the fans during the week to help build the Gozitan football trademark, with a chance to win prizes.

Minister Camilleri explained that “all this will help to promote Gozitan football both locally and internationally and at the same time serve as a valuable solution to the current challenges we are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Dr Samuel Azzopardi, President of the Gozo Football Association, said that the GFA is committed to developing the football community in Gozo, made up of 14 village clubs, to ensure the sustainability of football on the island of Gozo.

These clubs year after year strive to provide football opportunities for their youth and organise senior teams to participate in the 1st and 2nd Gozitan division, said Dr Azzopardi.

He stated that it is the mission of the Association to support the clubs and help them promote their teams and their efforts by providing challenging and fun tools for all fans of the Gozitan clubs.

The Minister for Gozo concluded by saying that the aim of this initiative is to increase the interest of the fans and at the same time increase the number of Gozitan fans by making the game of football in Gozo more demanding and accessible.
