€1 million is to be allocated by the Government to bar owners and clubs to assist them in facing the current challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Robert Abela made the announcement on his social media on Thursday afternoon, saying that details about the incentive will follow in the coming days.
The Prime Minister went on to say that in recent weeks he had “maintained constant personal contact with the owners of various bars and understood the need for more support.”
He added that this will complement the wage supplement that is already being given, particularly during the festive season.
A legal notice has been issued for bars to remain closed until the 1st of February, they first closed at the end of October and had been due to open early in December, the closure was then extended until the 1st of January, with the further extension announced this week.

According to Times of Malta there are 2,273 registered bars and if they have all been closed and will share the Government’s €1,000,000 then they will get less than €500 each. Not much compensation for being closed for 3 months!
