Church schools will teaching online until possibly next WednesdayThe Secretariat for Catholic Education has said that Church schools will be teaching online this Thursday and Friday, the 7th and 8th of January and may be extended at least till Wednesday, the 13th of January if the trend in positive cases remains high.

SfCE, in a statement on Wednesday, said that parents will be informed through their respective schools by this Sunday evening, the 10th of January.

This decision will allow schools to offer an education which safeguards the health and safety of students, staff members and their families, the Secretariat said.

It went on to explain that the decision had been made in consultation with the Church Schools Association (CSA) after taking note of the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases reported by Public Health Authorities, reaching a significant peak today. It added that, “the number of positive cases are expected to remain high in the coming few days.”

The Secretariat reminded that health and safety remains paramount. “This precautionary measure will help contain the increase in cases and avoid greater hardships on families if they have to quarantine themselves as a result of contact with positive cases in schools,” it said.

SfCE concluded by saying, “everyone’s cooperation is required to ensure a safer environment.”
