On Wednesday, the 6th of May 2009, at the National Sanctuary of Our Lady ‘ta’ Pinu’, there will be the opening of the fifteen devotional Wednesdays in honour of Our Lady in preparation for the 15th August Solemnity. The programme of activities during these popular Wednesdays is as follows:

The National Sanctuary opens its doors at 4.30am.

Holy Masses are celebrated at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8.30am and 9am.

Between 11.30am and 5.30pm there will be Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel of Our Lady.

5.30pm: Solemn Concelebrated Mass with homily about the virtues of Our Lady. The Nativitas choir, belonging to the Victory Philharmonic Society of Xaghra (Gozo), will participate during these fifteen devotional Wednesdays. The choir will be under the direction of Mrs. Silvana Agius and Assistant Director and organist Ivan Attard.

Holy Masses are celebrated again at 6.30pm and 8.00pm.

Between 9.00am and 10.15pm there will be Eucharist Adoration in silence in the chapel of Our Lady.

10.15pm: The Evening Prayer (Kumpieta) will be recited and solemn Eucharist Benediction is imparted, bringing to an end a day full of religious activities in honour of our Lady.

The National Sanctuary closes at 10.30pm.

For the First Wednesday (celebrated on 6th May), the 5.30pm Mass will be presided by H.E. Mgr Nicholas J. Cauchi, Bishop Emeritus of the Gozitan Diocese. During these Wednesdays, there will be a confession service in the Sanctuary.

On Monday, the 22nd of June 2009, the Gozitan Church celebrates the 126th Anniversary of the calling of Our Lady venerated at “Ta’ Pinu” to Carmela Grima. A separate programme of activities will be issued later on.

Rector Rev. Gerard Buhagiar, Vice Rector Rev. Michael Galea and all the priests who give service in the National Sanctuary of Our Lady ‘ta’ Pinu’ invite everyone to join the Gozitan community in these traditional Wednesdays and give honour and glory of Our Lady.
