The Union of Professional Educators – Voice of the Workers, has welcomed the Prime Minister’s latest restrictive measures announced today, however, the UPE has opposed the postponement of carnival holidays from the agreed calendar.
The Union was referring to the Prime Minister’s suggestion earlier today to keep schools open during the carnival holiday period, with these holidays added to the calendar at a later stage.
The UPE concluded by urging for further enforcement action to be taken “to restrict rental accommodation to members of the same household, as it is only in this way that the spread of the virus will be more efficiently contained.”
The Malta Union of Teachers, in reaction to the latest restrictions announced by the Prime Minister, has “categorically rejected” the suggestion that schools be kept open for mid-term holidays.
The MUT stated that it is “not willing to hold discussions on changes to the school calendar, which stems from the sectoral and collective agreements that are established.”
