Visitors to the Citadella Visitors’ Centre in Gozo who are visually and hearing impaired will now have access to a new device, which will enhance their experience of this historic setting.

With an investment of around €70,000, the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri inaugurated the device, which has a sophisticated system that includes translation and recording in eight languages for the visually and hearing impaired.

The Minister for Gozo said that this system strengthens the centre’s operation, making it more accessible to everyone who is interested in the history of our islands.The Director of Cultural Heritage explained how all this was done in consultation with the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility, who provided technical advice and full support to the Directorate for Cultural Heritage within the Ministry for Gozo during the entire production process of this system, which is the latest technology present on the market.

Sarner International Managing Director Ross Magri explained how the device works. They are the company that created the interactive concept of the visitor experience and, in addition to doing the necessary maintenance for the last few years, they also continued to provide technical advice on how to improve it.

The necessary training on the equipment is currently underway for employees at the centre so that they can offer help to those who request it.
