The first ‘Learning Garden’ project has been officially launched in Ghajnsielem, which was applied for by the Ghajnsielem Local Council, together with BirdLife Malta and the Gozo Federation of Persons with Disability.
Launched by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri together with the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, the project has been financed through €120,000 in European funds.
Minister Camilleri said that, “the Learning Garden will be providing a space for children to learn differently in an open environment. This garden will be an inclusive one, as the works that will be carried out around the play area will ensure that it is accessible to all, including those children who are visually impaired.”
He explained how such projects preserve Gozitan culture and heritage, as it will include a place where traditional games are played, adding that this is one of a number of ongoing projects currently underway in Gozitan villages.
Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this project is being carried out with an investment of €120,000 in European funds, where the Gal Gozo Foundation is giving more opportunities for partnerships between eNGOs and local councils to work together for the benefit of the locality.
He said that “through this project, we will provide a unique way for children to receive their learning in an open environment through innovative games and methods.”
The Parliamentary Secretary stressed that such projects show how it is important to have a more inclusive society that caters to everyone’s needs.
This project is being funded through the fourth measure of the LEADER programme, administered by the Gal Gozo Foundation.
